One rainy day...
Ruby sits by the window. She has lots of feelings inside. She does not know what to do with them.
Then she sees a rainbow!
"Oh! A rainbow!" says Ruby. "It is so beautiful!"
The rainbow seems to speak to Ruby.
"Hello, Ruby! Do you know that feelings are like rainbows?" asks the rainbow.
"What do you mean?" asks Ruby.
The rainbow shows Ruby its colors.
"Red is for angry feelings. Have you ever felt angry?" asks the rainbow.
"Yes! When my brother takes my toy, I feel angry!" says Ruby.
"That is okay. Angry feelings are normal," says the rainbow.
The rainbow continues.
"Yellow is for happy feelings. When you laugh and play, you feel happy!"
"I love happy!" says Ruby, smiling.
More colors appear.
"Blue is for sad feelings. Sometimes it is okay to feel sad," says the rainbow.
"I feel sad when my friends go home," says Ruby quietly.
"That is a good feeling, Ruby. Sadness means you love someone," says the rainbow kindly.
And more colors still.
"Green is for scared feelings. Everyone feels scared sometimes."
"I feel scared of the dark," admits Ruby.
"That is very normal," says the rainbow.
Ruby learns the whole rainbow.
Red is angry. Yellow is happy. Blue is sad. Green is scared. Purple is excited. Orange is silly. Pink is loving.
And all of them are okay!
"So all these feelings are good?" asks Ruby.
"Yes! All feelings are messages. They tell you important things," says the rainbow. "And talking about them helps!"
The rainbow begins to fade.
"Wait! Come back!" says Ruby.
"I am always inside you, Ruby. Your rainbow of feelings is a gift," says the rainbow as it disappears.
Ruby runs to Mama.
"Mama! I have a rainbow of feelings inside me! And they are all okay!"
Mama hugs Ruby. "Yes, sweetheart! And whenever you need to talk about your feelings, I am here to listen."
Ruby learns that feelings are not scary. They are special. And sharing them with people you love makes everything better.
